What Steve Harvey Meant When He Said Left Hand Third Finger
I love Steve Harvey! His show and all he does is EVERYTHING! I always learn something every time he speaks. I was watching a clip from one of his episodes and he said, "the only thing that changes the day after the wedding, is the appearance of your left hand third finger." So, I naturally looked at my left hand and noticed it was the fourth or second finger. Steve is old school. And "old school" always know what they're talking about, we just need to listen. I knew it meant something, so I did some digging. Anything remotely related to the left hand, I'm researching it and if it's worthy, I'm going to blog about it. And this is so worthy! I even found a big treat, which I'll share towards the end.
Here's the Steve Harvey clip that I'm referring to:

There are three references that I found that refers to the third finger as the wedding finger. The first I found in Wikipedia.
Left Hand Third Finger - Per Biology and Anatomy
According to Wikipedia, "The ring finger is the finger on which it is the custom in a particular culture for a wedding ring to be placed during a wedding ceremony and on which the wedding ring is subsequently worn to indicate the status of the wearer as a married person. It is commonly the finger between the middle finger and the little finger, and is so named because in some cultures it is the finger on which one usually wears a wedding ring after marriage. In some cultures the wedding ring is worn on the "ring finger" of the left hand and in others it is on the right hand. Traditionally, a wedding ring was worn only by the bride/wife, but in recent times more men also wear a wedding ring. It is also the custom in some cultures to wear an engagement ring on the ring finger."
In anatomy, the ring finger is called digitus medicinalis, the fourth finger, digitus annularis, digitus quartus, or digitus IV. It may also be referred to as the third finger, excluding the thumb. In Latin, the word anulus means "ring", digitus means "finger", and quartus means "fourth".
Left Hand Third Finger Per The Dictionary
The second comes from Dictionary.com:
And according to dictionary.com, "third finger" is a noun and defined as the finger next to the little finger, ring finger.
Left Hand, Third Finger The Movie
The third comes from a 1940s movie called "Left Hand, Third Finger." Per Wikipedia, Left Hand, Third Finger is a 1940 American romantic comedy film directed by Robert Z. Leonard. A woman pretends to be married to fend off would-be suitors and jealous wives, then regrets her deception when she meets an artist.
So, there you go...
