Is the Left Handed Disability Act Real?
Hell No! Let's define disability. Per the ADA, "disability is a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, a person who has a history or record of such an impairment, or a person who is perceived by others as having such an impairment." Most left handed people we know are far from this. As a matter or fact, they are some of the most smartest and most highly functioning people we know. They are far from being mentally challenged. However, it is true that they do have issues using items or tools designed for right handed people. But, that alone does not warrant a check from the government.
There are unverifiable claims of left handed people dying from using items designed for right handed people. After tons of research, we were not able to find any scientific proof, studies or polls. The number that is currently trolling the internet is 2500.
Per the New York Times, researchers, Dr. Diane F. Halpern of California State University at San Bernardino and Dr. Stanley Coren of the University of British Columbia, said that they found that left-handers were more than five times (7.9 percent to 1.5 percent) as likely to die in accidents, often while driving. One reason, they suggested, is that left-handers live in a world designed for right-handers.
But, we digressed....
Back to is left-handedness a disability. We did some digging on the past, current and pending acts proposed and passed by Congress. We did a site search on "left-handed", "left-handedness", "disability" and "left handed disability act." When we searched "disability", there were 1,020 results and looked and EVERY single one. Nothing remotely comes close to a Left Handed Disability Act.
Ask yourself, do YOU know anyone who is getting a left handed disability check from the government. Do any of your friends know ANYONE who is getting a left handed disability check. Do any of your "friends of friends" know ANYONE who is getting a check for being left handed. So, you have answered the question yourself. Is the Left Handed Disability Act Real? Hell No!! Trust and believe that if people were getting a check for being left-handed, somebody would be bragging. Talking about, "Yeah, hunny...My left handed disability check dropping on the 15th!"
So, don't take your ass down to the Social Security office trying to get a check for being disabled because you're left-handed. They'll think you're crazy, but it won't be because you're left handed.
